The New England Patriots will aim for their seventh straight victory this week when they travel to face the first-place Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Patriots are 4-0 on the road. The team has started with a road record of 5-0 or better six times in team history (1978 - 6-0, 2006 - 5-0, 2007 - 8-0, 2016 - 8-0, 2017 - 6-0 and 2021 - 6-0). The six-game winning streak in 2025 is the longest streak since 2021 when the Patriots had a seven-game winning streak from Week 7 to Week 13.

SERIES HISTORY

The Patriots and Buccaneers will meet in a regular season game for the 11th time overall and for the first time since the 2021 season when Tampa Bay beat New England, 19-17, at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 3, 2021. The Patriots will travel to play at Tampa Bay for the first time since a 19-14 win in a Thursday Night Football game on Oct. 5, 2017.

The Patriots are 7-3 against the Buccaneers all-time in the regular-season. New England won the first three games in the series from 1976-88. Tampa Bay claimed the next two meetings before a Patriots' 28-0 shutout victory in 2005 got the Patriots back on the winning side, winning four straight games prior to the loss in 2021.

The Patriots beat the Buccaneers in 1988 and then went 17 years before their next win against the Buccaneers in 2005.

The 17-year victory gap is the second longest for the Patriots, trailing only a 33-year win drought against the Washington Commanders, which lasted from 1973-2006.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

  • The Patriots have won six straight games following the 24-23 victory vs. Atlanta. A victory this week against Tampa Bay will give the Patriots a seven-game winning streak to match their longest winning streak since a seven-game winning streak during the 2021 season.
  • A win this week at Tampa Bay will improve the Patriots to an 8-2 record and match the total wins the team has had over the last two seasons after finishing 4-13 in both 2023 and 2024.
  • A win this week at Tampa Bay will give the Patriots a 5-0 road record for the seventh time in franchise history. The Patriots and Seattle Seahawks are the only teams that have undefeated records on the road in 2025, each with 4-0 records.
  • The Patriots are the only team in 2025 that has not surrendered 50 yards to a running back through the first nine games in 2025. It is the first time in team history that has occurred. If the Patriots do not allow a Tampa Bay running back to reach 50 yards this week, they will tie the record for the longest streak since the AFL/NFL merger, which is 10 games by Tampa Bay. Carolina RB Chuba Hubbard had the most yards against New England this season, gaining 49 yards on Sept. 28.
  • The 2025 Patriots defense ranks first in the NFL against the run, allowing 75.4 rushing yards per game. The Patriots record for fewest rushing yards allowed since the NFL merger is 88.6 rushing yards per game in 2016.
  • With CB Marcus Jones' 87-yard punt return for a touchdown vs. Carolina (9/28) and RB Antonio Gibson's 90-yard kickoff return touchdown at Miami (9/14), it marked the fourth season that the Patriots have returned at least one punt and one kickoff for a touchdown in the same season. The Patriots have also returned both a punt and kick for a touchdown in 1980, 2010 and 2012. Of those seasons, only the 2010 season had three returns for a touchdown. That year, the Patriots returned one punt for a touchdown and two kickoffs for a touchdown. If the Patriots get a touchdown on a return this week at Tampa Bay, they can match that season.
  • S Brenden Schooler (11), LB Jack Gibbens (10) and LB Christian Elliss (10) have each reached double-digit special teams tackles. It is the first time since the 2022 season that the Patriots have had at least three players reach double-digit special teams tackles. That year, Schooler had 14, WR Matthew Slater had 13 and LB Mack Wilson Sr. had 10. LB Marte Mapu has 7 special teams tackles and needs 3 to join Schooler, Gibbens and Elliss with double-digit special teams tackles. The Patriots have had at least three players reach 10 or more special teams tackles 22 times since 1994. The Patriots have had at least four players finish with 10 or more tackles 14 times, with the last time coming in 2011. The team record since 1994 is from 2003, when eight players finished with at least 10 special teams tackles.
