The New England Patriots have named six team captains for the 2025 season, representing a blend of veteran leadership, emerging stars, and tone-setters across all three phases of the game.

Quarterback Drake Maye, tight end Hunter Henry, linebacker Robert Spillane, cornerback Marcus Jones, edge rusher Harold Landry III, and special teams ace Brenden Schooler will wear the "C" this fall, as voted by their teammates.

Maye, entering his second NFL season, earns the captaincy for the first time after a solid offseason and training camp. The 2024 first-round pick and Pro Bowl selection has embraced a leadership role in the locker room and on the field, setting the tone for the Patriots new-look offense.

"As a quarterback, you have to, when you talk to the players on that team or on the offense specifically, you have to do it in a manner that gets their attention and to clarify that," said head coach Mike Vrabel earlier this summer of Maye's leadership role. "We always can continue to work on things, focus on our reaction, our response to things and how, as a quarterback or any player, you want it to be perfect. It's never going to be perfect… We need to focus on our responses to those mistakes that are so critical. There are so many snaps in the football game that, there's certain things that can go up and down, and performance is one of them, and our attitude and our effort is something that can't.

Henry returns as a captain for the third straight year, continuing to serve as a steady presence in the tight end room and a trusted target in the passing game. His professionalism and consistency have made him a respected voice among teammates.

"I think that anything you ask [Hunter] to do, it comes very easy and he's very instinctive and he's got a good feel for the game. So, those are all positives, and I think that leads to his consistency," said Vrabel at the start of camp this summer.

Spillane, signed in free agency this offseason from the Las Vegas Raiders, where he served as a captain the last two seasons, will again be a captain for a third straight year, now for the Patriots. Known for his toughness and football IQ, Spillane has quickly become a key communicator in head coach Mike Vrabel's defensive scheme.

"He's a very competitive, prideful leader," said Vrabel of Spillane when training camp kicked off. "He plays with a lot of energy. He plays with passion. Great communicator. Plays with a level of violence in the run game. I think he's got a little level of versatility to him, too."

Jones, now in his fourth season, steps into a leadership role after emerging as one of the Patriots most dynamic playmakers in all phases of the game. Whether on defense, special teams or even past occasional appearances on offense, Jones brings energy and versatility that teammates rally around. It is his first season being named a captain as he enters the final year of his rookie deal.

Landry, another offseason addition with a previous connection to Vrabel like Spillane, brings veteran experience and pass-rushing prowess to the Patriots' front seven. His work ethic and intensity have helped set the standard for the defensive line group. He's been a consistent factor for the Patriots on the field all summer long and will now expand his leadership duties off of it.

Schooler is the fourth player to earn captain honors for the first time, a testament to his relentless effort and impact on special teams. Now in his fourth season, Schooler has become a core leader in the kicking game and a favorite among fans and teammates for his all-out style. He was named to the AP All-Pro team and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2024.

Together, this group reflects the Patriots renewed commitment to accountability, toughness, and team-first football as they prepare for the 2025 campaign.
