FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The NFL announced the 2014 preseason pairings today and the Patriots learned that they will host the Philadelphia Eagles (Preseason Week 2) and Carolina Panthers (Preseason Week 3) at Gillette Stadium and will travel to play the Washington Redskins (Preseason Week 1) and the New York Giants (Preseason Week 4). The dates and times of those games will be mutually decided upon between the two teams and announced at a later date. The NFL schedule for the 2014 regular season will be announced by the league later this spring.

New England will open on the road at Washington during the first week of the preseason. It is the second straight season that the team will open the preseason with a road contest. Last year, the Patriots began the preseason at Philadelphia. Washington has been a frequent preseason opponent for the Patriots with 20 previous meetings. The only teams the Patriots have faced more in the preseason are the Giants (23 meetings) and Philadelphia (21 meetings).

The Patriots will then play their next two preseason contests at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots will host the Philadelphia Eagles in their 2014 preseason home opener. Last season, the Patriots held joint practice sessions in Philadelphia at the Eagles' headquarters prior to opening the preseason with a 31-22 victory.

The Patriots will stay at home for a Week 3 preseason matchup with the Carolina Panthers. Last season, the Patriots traveled to Carolina during the regular season for a Monday Night Football game on Nov. 18 and dropped a 24-20 decision. Carolina took the lead with 59 seconds to play when QB Cam Newton connected with WR Ted Ginn, Jr. on a 25-yard touchdown pass. Tom Brady moved the Patriots to the Carolina 18-yard line and fired a pass into the end zone on the final play that was intercepted by S Robert Lester to seal the Carolina win.

The Patriots and Giants will play each other in the preseason finale for the 10th straight season and for the 24th time overall in the preseason, the most frequent preseason opponent for New England. Last season, the Patriots hosted the Giants in the preseason-finale and won the game 28-20.
