Tom Brady joins Twitter with cruel, cruel joke

Tom Brady didn't take it easy on Patriots fans for April Fools Day.

The Twittersphere just got a little more GOAT-y.

Opening up Twitter on April 1 means you run the risk of encountering a very convincing tweet only to realize it's a prank. Tom Brady decided to make his grand Twitter debut with a cruel, cruel joke.

He tweeted, "I'm retiring. In my spare time, I'll be tweeting #LFG."

*cue Patriots Nation panic*

Okay, okay, so it was pretty clearly an April Fools' joke, but still. It was alarming.

Not long after the first tweet went up, however, Tom confirmed he was kidding. "Was this a bad joke?" he tweeted. Phew.

But him joining Twitter is no joke, and he's got the blue check to confirm it. Of course, Tom getting a Twitter account made a splash online. At the time of publication, Tom's account has been up and running for a little more than an hour, and already, more than 80,000 users have followed the GOAT.

And that number rises by the second. Casual.

Welcome to Twitter, Tom. We're excited to see what you do with 280 characters.
