Jags re-sign S Darius to one-year deal

The Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed franchise player Donovin Darius to a one-year tender contract.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 1, 2005) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed franchise player Donovin Darius to a one-year tender contract.

Darius received the team's franchise tag for the third straight season, meaning the hard-hitting safety's new deal is worth the average of the top five salaries at his position last season.

The 29-year-old Darius started every game last season, was third on the team with 125 tackles and registered a team-record nine turnovers. He is the franchise's all-time leading tackler with 790.

Along with Darius, the Jaguars re-signed defensive tackle Derrick Ransom, who had 16 tackles in 10 games last season.

Also, the Jags tendered contract offers to two restricted free agents, linebacker Akin Ayodele and safety Deke Cooper; and three exclusive rights players, running back David Allen, quarterback Quinn Gray and center Brett Romberg.
