Pats, Saints to swap WR Johnson, DL Sullivan

New England and New Orleans have agreed to a trade that would send wide receiver Bethel Johnson from the Patriots to the Saints for defensive lineman Johnathan Sullivan. The deal is contingent on approval by the NFL office, which is expected June 6, Patriots spokesman Stacey James said.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (June 5, 2006) -- New England and New Orleans have agreed to a trade that would send wide receiver Bethel Johnson from the Patriots to the Saints for defensive lineman Johnathan Sullivan.

The deal is contingent on approval by the NFL office, which is expected June 6, Patriots spokesman Stacey James said.

Both players have been disappointments after being chosen early in the 2003 draft. Johnson, a speedster who was taken in the second round with the 45th overall pick, had only 30 catches in three seasons and only four in 2005. Sullivan was the sixth pick in that draft, but had one sack in 14 games last season.
