Patriots OL Koppen out for the season

Patriots center Dan Koppen is out for the season after injuring his shoulder against Miami. Koppen has started 40 games for New England since being selected in the fifth round of the 2003 draft.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (Nov. 15, 2005) -- Patriots center Dan Koppen is out for the season after injuring his shoulder against Miami.

Koppen has started 40 games for New England since being selected in the fifth round of the 2003 draft. The former Boston College player took over the starting job in the second game of his rookie season.

The Patriots also put defensive back Randall Gay on injured reserve with an ankle injury, further hobbling the team's injury-riddled defense.

In other moves, the team signed free-agent cornerback Artrell Hawkins and free-agent offensive lineman Gene Mruczkowski, who has been with the team off and on during the last three seasons and can play guard or center.
