Seattle adds DE Rasmussen for depth, 'teams'

The Seattle Seahawks signed free-agent defensive end Kemp Rasmussen. Rasmussen, a four-year veteran of the Carolina Panthers, will compete for a backup role to starters Bryce Fisher and Grant Wistrom.

KIRKLAND, Wash. (April 13, 2006) -- The Seattle Seahawks signed free-agent defensive end Kemp Rasmussen.

Rasmussen, a four-year veteran of the Carolina Panthers, will compete for a backup role to starters Bryce Fisher and Grant Wistrom. He will also likely play on Seattle's special teams, which was one of the weaker areas for the 2005 NFC champions.

Rasmussen played 15 games for the Panthers last season, mostly on special teams. That has been his primary role throughout his 50-game career.
