Eagles sign fourth-round pick Avant

PHILADELPHIA (July 13, 2006) -- Fourth-round draft pick Jason Avant signed a four-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 6-foot, 212-pound receiver caught 82 passes for 1,007 yards and eight touchdowns for Michigan last year while serving as team captain. He was also named team MVP last season.

Avant, 23, had a streak of 33 games in which he caught a pass. He finished his Wolverines career with 169 catches for 2,247 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Avant is the sixth of the Eagles' eight draft picks to sign.
