CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb. 28, 2005) -- The Carolina Panthers released 16-year veteran quarterback Rodney Peete and guard Doug Brzezinski in cost-cutting moves that will save the club $2.5 million.
Both players could re-sign with the Panthers for smaller contract.
Peete, 39, started for the Panthers in 2002 then signed a three-year contract extension worth $4 million in 2003. But he lost his job at halftime of the season opener that year to Jake Delhomme, and has been a backup since then.
Brzezinski signed as a free-agent in 2003 but played in just one game that season. He was a starter for eight games last year until he broke his hip and missed the rest of the season.
