CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 10, 2005) -- The Carolina Panthers added depth at safety by signing free agent Marlon McCree from the Houston Texans to a one-year deal.
McCree, who can play both free and strong safety, goes into training camp as the top backup behind starters Mike Minter and Colin Branch; the team may also add a safety in the draft.
McCree has started 39 games in four years in the league, recording 157 tackles, nine interceptions and two sacks.
He spent his first two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, then joined the Texans in 2003.
His best season came in 2002 with the Jaguars, when he started all 16 games and registered six interceptions.
