Patriots assistant to join USC staff

New England coaching assistant Mark Jackson has left the team and is accepting a position on Pete Carroll’s staff at the University of Southern California.

New England coaching assistant Mark Jackson has left the team and is accepting a position on Pete Carroll's staff at the University of Southern California.

Jackson, an assistant with the Patriots since April of 1998, will serve as a program manager for the Trojans. He served as assistant for two seasons while Carroll was the head coach in New England. Jackson is the second member of the 2000 coaching staff to join USC since Carroll became the school's new head coach.

The other assistant to leave was defensive assistant DeWayne Walker, who had worked with the Patriots defensive backs for three years. USC announced that Walker will serve as the team's secondary coach and as associate head coach.
