Patriots LB Guyton receives two-year contract extension, agent says

Linebacker Gary Guyton has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the New England Patriots, his agent told the Boston Herald on Wednesday night.

Linebacker Gary Guyton has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the New England Patriots, his agent told the Boston Herald on Wednesday night.

"We're absolutely thrilled that the Patriots have done this for him," Richard Kopelman said. "... We had some discussions with them a while back. 'Hey, if you could, it'd be great if you could step up and do a little something for Gary this year.' And they told us they would. They were true to their word, which was fantastic."

Guyton was scheduled to earn the minimum of $470,000 next season, the Herald reported. Under the terms of the extension, Guyton will earn $505,000 in 2010 and $1 million in 2011 and receive a $650,000 signing bonus.

Guyton registered 85 tackles and 1.5 sacks last season, starting all 16 games in his second full season with the Patriots. He signed in 2008 as an undrafted free agent from Georgia Tech.
