Patriots sign TE Rasby, releases Herring

The New England Patriots signed veteran tight end Walter Rasby and released rookie safety Jarvis Herring. Rasby spent his 11th NFL season last year with Washington, catching five passes in six games.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (July 28, 2006) -- The New England Patriots signed veteran tight end Walter Rasby and released rookie safety Jarvis Herring.

Rasby spent his 11th NFL season last year with Washington, catching five passes in six games. He's also played for Pittsburgh, Carolina, Detroit and New Orleans. He has 64 catches in his career for 584 yards and five touchdowns.

The Patriots signed Herring as a rookie free agent on May 8. In four years at Florida, he played 49 games with 22 starts.
