FOXBORO, Mass. (June 1, 2005) -- The New England Patriots waived quarterback Chris Redman and offensive tackle Lance Nimmo.

Redman, selected by Baltimore in the third round of the 2000 NFL Draft out of Louisville, had been expected to compete for a backup spot behind Tom Brady. New England signed him in January.

But the field got crowded in April when the Patriots signed veteran Doug Flutie and drafted Matt Cassel of Southern California. They also have Rohan Davey.

Redman, 27, spent four seasons with the Ravens, but was out of football last season. He went 3-3 in six career starts for the Ravens.

Nimmo, 25, was selected by Tampa Bay in the fourth round of the 2003 draft out of West Virginia. The Patriots signed him to their practice squad in November and added him to their active roster in February.
