Pats defeat Jags despite absence of stalwarts

The Patriots beat the Jacksonville Jaguars by the score of 26 to 20 despite the absence of offensive stars, Terry Glenn and Curtis Martin. The Patriots took the opening drive 42 yards to set up Adam Vinatieri's first of five field goal atttempts for the game.

Steve Israel shut down the Jaguars opening drive by forcing a fumble at mid-field. Drew Bledsoe captialized upon it with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Troy Brown.
Then on the ensuing kickoff, Vernon Crawford forced a fumble on the Jaguars 27-yard line to set up another Vinatieri field goal.
Bledsoe wrapped up the first half with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Ben Coates to push the score to 20-7.
For the rest of the game the Jaguars played catch-up. Vinatieri's final field goal attempt sailed wide left and gave the Jaguars a shot at the endzone with :28 left on the clock with the score 26-20. Brunell sailed the ball 70 yards only to have it batted down at the goal line by two Patriots defenders.
