According to a message on Twitter sent by his agent, Mark Slough, veteran running back Sammy Morris has been released.
"In 12 yrs I've never had this talk w/ #Patriots RB Sammy Morris…just notified of his release. Sammy is consummate professional & class act," wrote Slough.
With Shane Vereen returning to full health and Stevan Ridley showing he was capable of contributing earlier in the preseason, the move was not surprising. Ridley has missed the last two games, however, so the Morris release likely means his absence isn't expected to be long term. Even though the move makes sense, it's tough to see a classy guy like Morris out of a job.
