Rams hire changes mind, goes with USC

ST. LOUIS (Feb. 8, 2006) -- Nick Holt took the defensive coordinator's job at Southern California, one day after accepting an offer to become the Rams' defensive line coach under new coach Scott Linehan.

Rams spokesman Duane Lewis said Holt had not signed a contract.

"He just changed his mind," Lewis said.

Holt had been head coach at Idaho. He and Linehan, who replaced Mike Martz on Jan. 20, have been friends for years. The two coached together at Idaho and at Louisville.

Holt was 5-18 during two seasons at Idaho and before that was linebackers coach at USC from 2001-03.
