Seahawks, top pick Jennings come to terms

The Seattle Seahawks and first-round draft choice Kelly Jennings agreed on a multiyear contract two days after he was due to report to training camp.

CHENEY, Wash. (July 30, 2006) -- The Seattle Seahawks and first-round draft choice Kelly Jennings agreed on a multiyear contract two days after he was due to report to training camp.

Jennings, the 31st overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, has a starting job to lose over the next six weeks before the regular season begins.

On July 29, Mike Holmgren seemed frustrated that Jennings was not in camp on time. He did not say whether Jennings had been fined.

"For the life of me, I've never understood that deal: all of a sudden everyone's frantic on the Friday before camp and then, bang, bang, bang, bang, everyone signs," he said. "Why don't they start on Wednesday? But they don't do it that way. I don't know. That's why I don't negotiate contracts any more."
