Series History: Patriots - Colts

The New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts will meet this Sunday for the second time this season and the 61st time in series history. Their rivalry dates back to 1970, when the Baltimore Colts defeated the Patriots 14-6 at Harvard Stadium.

Since the Colts moved to Indianapolis in 1984, the Patriots have had their number, winning 24 of 32 games.

The two teams met on Oct. 8, 2000, and the Patriots won 24-16. They have now won eight of the last nine games in the series. Their only loss during the past four seasons was a 20-15 decision last season (Dec. 12, 1999). The results of the series are listed below:

GAME RECAP

These two teams met just three weeks ago on Oct. 8 and the Patriots defeated the defending AFC East champion Indianapolis Colts 24-16.

The Patriot offense scored points on all three of their trips across the Colts 20 yardline, tallying two touchdowns and one field goal. In their last six trips over the past two games they have five touchdowns and one field goal. The Patriots defense limited the Colts to three field goals in four trips inside their red zone.

Colts' quarterback Peyton Manning, who has never won at Foxboro Stadium in three attempts, threw three interceptions, all in the fourth quarter. His first came when linebacker Ted Johnson tipped a pass and cornerback Ty Law came down with the turnover. Safety Tebucky Jones and rookie cornerback Antwan Harris added interceptions.

COLTS: QB Peyton Manning passed for 334 yards against the Patriots in their last meeting (10/8/00). The Patriots are 2-0 this season and are 8-1 since 1996 when the opposing quarterback passes for over 300 yards ... RB Edgerrin James has rushed for 100 yards in two of three games against the Patriots - WR Marvin Harrison aims for his fourth consecutive 100-yard receiving game against the Patriots - The Colts will be looking for their sixth win in the last eight meetings against AFC East opponents.
