Bills Postgame Quotes - 9/30/2012

Buffalo Bills players addressed the media following their regular season game against the New England Patriots at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday, September 30, 2012. Read their quotes below.

Opening statement:

The things we did to win Week Two and Three, we obviously did not do today. You cannot turn it over and you cannot stop the run, you are not going to win football games. That is our responsibility to get them to not turn it over and not give up the rush yards we gave up. Did not make a play in special teams today either.

On why they could not stop the run:

To be honest with you, they whipped us. Bottom line, they whipped us. They blocked us, we did not get off blocks and get to the ball. They blocked us and they were making our corners make a bunch of tackles. We missed entirely too many tackles.

On if he expected the Patriots to be able to run the ball:

No. Did not expect that at all.

On giving up giving up 100 points in two division games:

How much of that is because of turnovers? It does not matter. We did it. I understand that. It looks like we are either feast or famine. We either play pretty good or we play really bad. We have to get out of that. Go make the next step to be a good football team. You cannot do that.

On if it feels daunting going up against the Patriots:

They are the defending (AFC) champs for a reason. They are good. They are. They are a good football team. They played well today. We did not measure up. Last two were bad, one before that was better. You try to learn from history. It is not a predictor of the future, but it is what it is. You learn from it and you try to get better from it. We were not good enough today.

On the status of S Jairus Byrd:

Byrd had a hip pointer. He and Donald (Jones) both got dinged a little bit. It seems to be minor. It seems like they will be OK.

On the status of LT Cordy Glenn:

Cordy has an ankle that is going to be a while. So does (Kraig) Urbik.

On if OG Kraig Urbik hurt his ankle:

On how much it hurt to have to replace two guys on the offensive line:

That is an excuse. You expect guys to walk in and play. We expect guys to go in and do their job.

On if he feels the team is embarrassed:

Yeah, I do. I am. I do not like to play like that. I do not think that is who we are, but that is who we were today. You cannot sugar coat it anyway, but we are 2-2. That is who we are today. We are 2-2. You kicked dirt on us almost after the first game, everybody was getting high after two and everybody will kick dirt on us after this week. That is just the way it is. I understand that. We have a tough road ahead of us. We understand that. Nobody understands that more than me.

They were able to split us with the inside guys I felt like. That is what I felt like. I will have to watch the film to get a real feel for that, but I thought we got off the downs a little bit quick. But I do not know that. That is what I felt like on the field.

On how things went along in deciding to play RB C.J. Spiller:

I do not make those decisions. You talk to the training staff about is he well enough to play and then you talk to the player. Does he want to play and is he well enough to play in his mind. If we have an opportunity to have a dynamic player on the field, you take the opportunity to do that.

On if he sensed the team panic when the Patriots started coming back:

No. I did not feel that. I thought there was a sense of 'Hey, we need to go make something happen offensively.' We gave up those points right before half that really hurt us, but I did not feel that. I did not feel that at all.

On the Bills being up 14 and then the Patriots taking over the game from there:

Yeah, obviously it showed us that we are not there yet. I think if you look at turnovers obviously, we had the few late there that really made it lopsided. We turned the ball over a few times in the first half, our defense was able to come up with stops. They kept us in it in the first half. For us to come out and have that type of lead, we have to be able to just continue to put the pressure on them. And it was the other way around. They scored a few times and put the pressure on us. I think we were pressing a little bit. It just did not stop from there.

On continuing to struggle to beat the Patriots:

We beat them last year. We were up three touchdowns last year in the other game. We were up two touchdowns in the second half this game. That is the most frustrating thing, I think, is for some reason these games especially versus these guys when they start rolling unfortunately we have not had an answer. We have to figure out why. We have to try to put a stop to that, but we did not have an answer today.

On the run game not producing today:

You have to give credit to (the Patriots), they did a good job. They are physical up front. I think our guys, late in the game obviously had to get away from it, but they were doing a good job just being physical. We had a couple of guys go down up front. Fred (Jackson) and C.J. (Spiller) coming off injuries, I just do not know, it is obviously not an excuse but I do not know that the timing and what we had the last few weeks was there today.

On if the team is embarrassed by what happened today:

Yeah, that was really embarrassing. We have got a lot of pride in this locker room and right now we have our tails between our legs in terms of we got our butts kicked. Unfortunately, we have been in this situation before. Fortunately, we have responded to this situation. We look at the film, try to get better and move on, but it is just hard with this being the second division game that we have not come out and played well to say that again.

On how damaging RB C.J. Spiller's fumble before halftime was:

I think we have to find a way to punch that in, whether it was some throws before that or punch it in when we got down low there. That was tough for us. We came out and put another score on the board. Points would have been nice there, but you cannot point to one thing in the game. When you look at that final score there were a lot of things that went wrong for us.

On why his passes have been being batted down:

I had the one today, 75 (Vince Wilfork) did not really rush, just stood there and deflected it. That was the first interception. I do not know. I do not know that it is happening more than normal or not. Those are obviously frustrating ones where there is not a whole lot you can do about it. You just chalk it up to a good play from the defender.

On his reaction to the results of the game:

We didn't play well in the second half. Way too many turnovers, if you have turnovers like that against a team like that they're going to take advantage of them. We didn't do enough in the second half to help our defense. Way too many three and outs, again the turnovers. Giving them short fields and we didn't give our defense enough time to rest.

On how he felt:

I think I played ok, but I didn't make enough plays obviously to help us win. I had a key turnover that didn't help, there are a lot of things I can go look at and correct.

On Fred and CJ Spiller alternating series:

I think that was more the game plan going in. They want to get us both out there and get us the most touches that they can. For us to rotate every series is a way to keep us fresh and try and get some touches.

On any residual effects from the knee injury:

It's sore, it's what's expected, nothing new. I'll go in, rehab tomorrow, go do some rehab right now and hopefully keep it under control.

On missed opportunity and New England's performance:

We're all disappointed in this, this was an opportunity for us and we didn't take advantage of it. You've got to give (New England) credit, they had their back against the wall, came in and made plays when they had to.

On if New England did anything different in the second half:

You don't want to take anything from (New England) because they made plays. We shot ourselves in the foot with a lot of turnovers, not making plays when we had the opportunity to.

On re-focusing for next week and beyond:

We've got a long season ahead of us; we're not going to go in the tank so to speak. We know there's a long season and all we can do is come out and keep playing next week.
