Brees leaves Saints for mother's funeral, but QB expects to play Saturday

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has left training camp to attend his mother's funeral.

METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has left training camp to attend his mother's funeral.

Saints coach Sean Payton says Brees is expected to rejoin the squad on Wednesday in Houston, where joint practices are scheduled with the Texans later this week.

Mina Brees, an attorney from Austin, Texas, died on Aug. 7 while traveling in Colorado. A memorial service is scheduled Monday night in Austin.

Brees participated in a practice at Saints headquarters in Metairie, La., Sunday morning, but was excused from a second practice in the evening.

The Saints have a preseason game in Houston on Saturday night. Brees has said he expects to play.
