Jets' Sanchez quiets critics without throwing much

Mark Sanchez faced a growing legion of critics, doubters and skeptics calling for his job, and begging the New York Jets to turn to Tim Tebow.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - Mark Sanchez faced a growing legion of critics, doubters and skeptics calling for his job, and begging the New York Jets to turn to Tim Tebow.

Sanchez went out last Sunday and quashed a simmering quarterback controversy - for a week, at least - with a game that will hardly rank among the best of his career. He went 11 for 18 for only 82 yards, marking the third time he failed to throw for 100 or more yards in his three-plus seasons.

But, he had two touchdowns and no turnovers, leading the Jets to a 35-9 win in which he led an offense that got back to its run-first philosophy.

Now comes a big test for Sanchez, Tebow and the rest of the offense with the New England Patriots.
