With injury concerns for linebackersDont'a Hightower (shoulder) and Jerod Mayo (knee), the Patriots could very well be in the market for a veteran at the position. Free agent Rolando McClaincould be one interesting possibility.
According to ESPN's Field Yates and Todd Archer, McClain is visiting with the team today. McClain, who was the eighth overall pick by Oakland in 2010 but has had a tumultuous career in the NFL.
He retired from the game twice before returning with Dallas last year and enjoyed a renaissance of sorts with the Cowboys, starting 12 of 13 games and finishing with 81 tackles. He's also facing a four-game fine for violating the substance abuse policy, although he is not facing any suspension time.
The Cowboys have expressed interest in retaining him but thus far haven't been able to work out a deal. The Patriots would be a logical landing spot for the former Alabama product who played for Nick Saban.
