Bears hire former Pro Bowler Byrd

The Chicago Bears hired former Pro Bowl cornerback Gill Byrd as defensive quality control coach and promoted Lloyd Lee to defensive assistant.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (Feb. 20, 2006) -- The Chicago Bears hired former Pro Bowl cornerback Gill Byrd as defensive quality control coach and promoted Lloyd Lee to defensive assistant.

A 10-year NFL veteran and two-time Pro Bowl selection with the San Diego Chargers, Byrd will help coach the Bears' defensive backs. He spent the past three seasons on the St. Louis Rams' staff, serving as assistant secondary coach last season and as defensive assistant in 2003 and 2004.

Lee, who spent the past two seasons as Chicago's defensive quality control coach, will assist with the nickel package and linebackers.

Former assistant defensive backs coach Torrian Gray left the Bears to accept a coaching position at Temple.
