La tarde de hoy los Patriots realizaron su tercera práctica de la semana de OTAs. Como ya lo mencionamos anteriormente, los ejercicios se llevaron a cabo bajo un clima poco amigable; lluvia, algo de viento y un frío fuera de época acompañaron al equipo y a los medios de prensa a lo largo de las dos horas y media.
Hablan los entrenadores
Como suele ocurrir en esta época del año, todos los entrenadores salieron al campo para platicar con la prensa y dar sus opiniones acerca de varios puntos. Aquí más detalles de esas pláticas.
Todos presentes, casi todos
Mientras los entrenadores platicaban con la prensa, los jugadores se apoderaban de los campos auxiliares del Gillette. Uno a uno o en grupos hacían su aparición. Entre los primeros en salir se encontraban Julian Edelman y Andrew Hawkins y entre los últimos, Rob Gronkowski. Se pudo notar la ausencia de Stephen Gostkowski, Joe Cardona, Dont'a Hightower, Malcolm Mitchell, Max Rich y Alan Branch.
Edelman entrenando a todo nivel
Había curiosidad por ver a los nuevos, particularmente a las adquisiciones importantes de la agencia libre. EL CB Stephon Gilmore -cubriendo muy de cerca de Edelman- logró algunas jugadas importantes, particularmente 2 intercepciones a Brady. Ambos jugadores, a pesar de ser solo una práctica de OTAs, mostraban competitividad y muchos deseos de vencer al otro. Esto es algo que siempre se ve en Edelman, y por lo visto Gilmore lo toma de la misma manera.
Malcolm Butler y Brandin Cooks
Este fue otro de los duelos de la tarde. Butler mostró su destreza y conocimiento del sistema, Cooks por su parte lo puso a prueba con su velocidad y dinamismo. Al final de la práctica Cooks resaltó la calidad del esquinero.
Butler deja que el tiempo decida las cosas
El CB estuvo presente en la práctica y se dirigió a la prensa al final de la sesión: "No puedo presagiar el futuro. Que ocurra lo que tenga que ocurrir", respondía de manera repetida ante la insistente pregunta de la prensa acerca de su permanencia en el equipo después de esta temporada.
Practicando el balón suelto recuperado
En un momento todos los jugadores formaron un semicírculo y practicaron recuperación de fumbles, maniobra que consistía en lanzarse al césped y recuperar el balón cubriéndolo con el cuerpo. Una jugada que causó la sorpresa de algunos periodistas presentes que no podían creer que Tom Brady se arriesgaría a realizarla, menos con el cesped mojado y resbaloso.
Los QBs
La presencia y modo de actuar de los 3 QBs hizo pensar que estábamos aún en la temporada 2016. Brady risueño por momentos, pero muy efectivo y serio en cada jugada; Garoppolo mostraba su comodidad con el sistema yendo de menos a más en su desempeño, mientras que Brissett como siempre deseoso de mostrar sus habilidades en cada oportunidad que se le presenta. Como es costumbre los QBs vistieron jerseys rojos de no-contacto.
Gronkowski en forma
Otra de las curiosidades era ver el estado de Gronkowski, como recordamos el TE fue operado de la espalda tras una lesión sufrida en la semana 10 de la pasada temporada. Gronk se mostró en muy buena forma, realizando múltiples recepciones tras pases de Brady. El TE como siempre muy entusiasmado realizaba el "jump-bump celebration".
El juego de retorno de balones
El regreso de despejes (en condiciones poco propicias debido a la lluvia) estuvo a cargo de Edelman, Amendola, el novato DB David Jones, y Cyrus Jones. Jones continuó mostrando poca seguridad al dejar caer el balón en un par de ocasiones.
Buscando contribuir de otras maneras
Los equipos especiales contaron con la participación del TE James O'Shaughnessy y del WR Cody Hollister, ambos acrecentarán sus posibilidades en el equipo si logran demostrar efectividad en esta área del juego.
Receptores en buena forma
Los receptores parecen estar en muy buena forma. Mostraban velocidad y seguridad para receptar, incluso los balones complicados. Amendola lució muy bien lo mismo que Edelman y Cooks. El novato Austin Carr también mostró potencial, aunque dejó caer un par de balones.
