Esta noche los New England Patriots cerraron su pretemporada 2017 con una derrota de último segundo por 40-38 frente a los Giants de New York.
Un partido que a pesar de ser considerado como una última oportunidad para aquellos que aspiran a quedarse en el equipo, se convirtió en una contienda entretenida e interesante con algunas actuaciones resaltantes.
Una sorprendente actuación
Sin duda el hombre de la noche fue Jacoby Brissett. El QB, ausente del último juego frente a los Lions y con un campo de entrenamiento y pretemporada floja, parecía estar destinado a ser víctima del recorte del sábado (cuando el equipo deberá reducir su plantilla actual de 90 a un máximo de 53). Sin embargo Brissett tuvo su mejor actuación como miembro del equipo de New England, jugando todo el partido y consiguiendo completar 28 de 39 pases para 341 yardas, 4 touchdowns y 1 INT. Brissett también anotó un TD tras correr 4 yardas.
"Fue divertido [jugar todo el partido]. Te hace sentir como un niño otra vez. Es difícil de explicarlo en palabras. Hubiera deseado que el resultado haya sido diferente pero fue divertido, fue muy divertido", dijo Brissett.
Buenas contribuciones
El QB# 3 del equipo de New England contó con la colaboración de un numeroso grupo de receptores, todos ellos en la pugna por conseguir un lugar en la plantilla final:
Dentro de los que luchan por sumarse al grupo de receptores destacaron Devin Lucien (5 recepciones, 96 yardas, 1 TD) al igual que su contendor Austin Carr (3 recepciones, 48 yardas, 1 TD).
En la lucha por consolidarse como el ala cerrada #3 destacaron Jacoby Hollister (4 recepciones, 26 yardas, 1 TD) y en menor escala James O'Shaughnessy (2 recepciones, 38 yardas).
El juego de carrera fue liderado por un candidato al equipo de práctica: LeShun Daniels (15 acarreos para 46 yardas), seguido por D.J. Foster (7 recepciones, 10 yardas). Foster también sobresalió en el juego de pases al receptar 4 balones para 51 yardas.
Una lesión costosa
La nota más negativa del partido fue sin duda lo ocurrido con el esquinero Cyrus Jones. Durante el segundo cuarto el CB (mientras realizaba una cobertura) apoya mal el pie derecho sufriendo una torcedura de la rodilla. El jugador requirió de ayuda para abandonar el campo.
Tras la lesión de Edelman, y ahora de Jones, D.J. Foster podría ser el indicado para realizar esta labor junto a Danny Amendola.
En la defensa resaltaron: DL Woodrow Hamilton, DL Geneo Grissom, LB Trevor Bates y los esquineros William Likely y Kenny Moore. Jonathan Freeny también tuvo una aceptable participación pero su larga permanencia en el campo no es necesariamente una buena señal.
Resumen
Como se esperaba, un partido con mucha presencia de suplentes y de 'suplente de suplentes'. Muchos de los jugadores vistos no estarán aquí el sábado a las 4:00 pm cuando se sepa la lista final. De cualquier manera, este partido tuvo muchos momentos de entretención y de buen juego.
Ahora es momento de dejar atrás la pretemporada (tras los recortes y el armado del equipo de práctica durante el fin de semana) y concentrarse en lo que es importante, la temporada regular. Una temporada que promete ser muy emocionante y de la que esperamos muchos éxitos para nuestro equipo.
