Planning a spur-of-the-moment summer vacation? If you're a Patriots fan, you might want to put Detroit on your list. Seriously!
The start of 2019 Patriots training camp is still about six weeks away, but we already have some details filtering in about practices – specifically joint sessions to be held with the Detroit Lions. Friday afternoon, the Lions announced the dates and times of their first several practices, three of which are joint sessions with the Super Bowl Champions.
We first heard talk of this possibility earlier this offseason, and now the Lions have confirmed the news. According to that club's official website, the Patriots will be in Detroit for practices with the Lions from Aug. 5-7, followed immediately by the two teams' preseason opener at Ford Field.
All practices will take place at the Lions' Allen Park practice facility, about a 15-minute drive from downtown Detroit. Fans are encouraged to attend and admission is free. Gates open at 8:30 a.m., with practices starting an hour later. However, it appears that first practice on Monday the 5th is open only to Lions season ticket members. The schedule is, of course, subject to change, so, if you plan on heading out to Michigan, stay tuned as the calendar gets closer to those dates.
Meanwhile, New England's second preseason opponent this year, the Tennessee Titans, announced earlier this offseason that they're also hosting the Patriots for joint training camp practices the following week. As of today, though, no concrete days or times have been announced by either club.
The Patriots typically open their training camp here in Foxborough two weeks before their first preseason game, which would be the last Thursday of July this summer. The team will most likely make a formal announcement about training camp dates and times sometime next month.
