The Boston Globe reports two different sources have information about LB Jerod Mayo'sinjury. One source believes Mayo will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks while the other source thinks he'll be back sooner. Mayo, the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year last season, suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in the Patriots' 25-24 win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday night at Gillette Stadium.
When asked if Mayo could be lost for the season, Head Coach Bill Belichick said, "I don't think that's what it is." LB Gary Guytonis expected to fill the void left by Mayo.
A reoccurring theme in Monday night's contest against the Bills was the inability to stop the screen pass. In addition, the prospect of LB Jerod Mayo missing the New York Jets game on Sunday doesn't bode well for the defensive unit. Patriots defensive coordinator Dean Pees was not shy in his explanation of the screen pass after the Bills game. "It was a good play against us. I give them credit for calling a few of them," he said. "We were doing some things to take away their wideouts, but at the same time, it was a total defensive thing." The* Boston Herald *reports the Jets have two major screen threats in RB Leon Washington and TE Dustin Keller.
