FOXBOROUGH - The New York Jets scored on their opening drive of the game on Thursday Night Football, but from that point on Drake Maye and the Patriots took over, methodically pulling away to a 27-14 victory. It was New England's eighth win in a row, extending their season record to 9-2, while improving their division-leading record in the AFC East to 3-0.

TreVeyon Henderson followed up his two-touchdown performance against the Buccaneers with three touchdowns against the Jets, two rushing and one receiving, joining Rob Gronkowski as the only two rookies in franchise history to record three touchdowns in one game. Maye put forth another highly efficient performance, completing 25-of-34 passes for 281 yards with a touchdown. Stefon Diggs posted his third 100-yard game of the season with nine catches for 105 yards. It was his 39th 100-yard game of his career.

Here's how it went down.

1. Jets Take the Ball and An Early Lead

It was a bit surprising when the Jets won the opening toss and chose to take the ball, but if they wanted to target a Patriots defense that has consistently allowed early scoring drives, they made the right choice. New York executed a 14-play, 72-yard drive, converting four third downs along the way to the end zone. The drive ate up over half of the first quarter, establishing a 7-0 Jets lead with Fields completing the only two pass attempts he made, including a conversion on 3rd-and-7 inside the red zone. Otherwise, the focus was on the running game, with the Jets posting 56 yards on the ground.

It was more of the same for the Patriots defense, allowing an opening drive touchdown while failing to get a stop in the red zone. Milton Williams was also banged up along the way, leaving the game with an ankle injury, but he would briefly return to the game later before being ruled out.

2. Maye, Henderson Fuel Patriots Response

Maye and the Patriots offense responded with a long, sustained drive of their own, theirs lasting 13 plays, 69 yards. Maye was 5-for-5 on the drive, including a fourth-down conversion to Pop Douglas and a third-down conversion to Stefon Diggs. TreVeyon Henderson had seven carries for 27 yards and finished the drive off with a seven-yard touchdown run, aided by a fleet of his offensive lineman who helped propel him into the end zone for the score. That made it 7-7 early in the second quarter.

After a Jets three-and-out, Maye and the offense would resume their strong start to the game, executing a second long touchdown drive. Big plays played a role on the drive, with Hunter Henry picking up a 23-yard gain as well as a 12-yarder on a 3rd-and-7. Mack Hollins chipped in a 20-yard catch to get the Pats back inside the red zone and then Henderson finished it off with his second seven-yard touchdown run of the game. The drive took just eight plays to go 83 yards.

That made it 14-7 Patriots midway through the second quarter.

3. Pats Miss Three Before Half

The Patriots defense forced three-straight three-and-outs after the opening scoring drive, and while the New England offense would be forced to punt on their own third possession, they kicked back into gear as the second quarter wound down. An illegal contact penalty played a role in the drive, as it turned an incomplete pass on third down into a new set of downs near midfield.

New England would get down to the Jets 27-yard line, setting up a 45-yard field goal attempt by Andy Borregales, but the kick was wide right, keeping the score 14-7 Patriots at the half.

The missed field goal was a departure from the Patriots recent performances of strong finishes to the first half. It was also Borregales' first missed field goal since Week 1 against the Raiders. The trend reversal carried into the second half when New England would go three-and-out on their first drive of the third quarter.

4. Pats Take a Two-Score Lead

After going three drives without any points, Maye and the offense started to roll after the Jets punted for a fourth-straight possession. Maye was the story of the drive, hitting Hollins for a 17-yard gain over the middle, then dumping off a pass just before going out of bounds to Diggs for a 21-yard gain.

Finally, Maye hit Henderson in the end zone for his first receiving touchdown of the game and third overall. It was another chunk-play drive, taking just six plays to go 69 yards, as the Patriots extended their lead to 21-7.

5. Jets Offense Comes Back to Life

Suddenly, the Jets rediscovered their ability to move the ball as they took to the air on the ensuing drive after falling behind by two scores. Justin Fields was 4-of-5 on the drive, including a 22-yard touchdown toss to John Metchie to make it 21-14. New England forced just one third down on the drive and it didn't come until the last play of it, the touchdown pass. After four drives without anything to show for them, New York reawakened to make the game interesting down the stretch.

The third-quarter score put the pressure back on Maye and the Patriots offense to answer.

6. Pats Get Three, Twice

Answer they did, but it wasn't easy, as New England needed two conversions on 3rd-and-longs to keep the drive alive. Pop Douglas delivered a 26-yard catch on one of those third downs and Diggs added 13 yards on the other third down. However, Maye couldn't get the offense back into the end zone, with a second-down sack helping to stall the drive out in Jets territory.

Borregales would bounce back after his second-quarter miss, hitting a 44-yard field goal to give New England back a two-score lead at 24-14 early in the fourth quarter.

After punts by both teams, Fields fumbled a snap near his own goal line and Anfernee Jennings recovered it at the Jets 11-yard line. The offense couldn't punch it in for another touchdown, instead settling for a short Borregales field goal to make it 27-14.

The Pats would get a fourth-down stop at the two-minute mark to close out a threatening final Jets drive.

7. Patriots are 9-2

With the win, the Patriots improve to 9-2, extending their winning streak to eight and maintaining their top position in the AFC East. The eight-game winning streak is the franchise's longest streak since 2019, when they started the year off 8-0.

Now, the Patriots can look forward to a small break, their first free weekend since the season began, but with two more games to go before their late bye week. Next Sunday, they'll travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals before returning home to Gillette Stadium to face the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.

The bye arrives in Week 14. Their final four-game stretch includes a home game against the Bills, followed by road games at the Ravens and Jets, and then the season finale at home in Foxborough against the Dolphins.
