FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick named Josh McDaniels as the quarterbacks coach on his staff today.
"Josh has been a valuable asset to our defensive coaching staff for much of the past three seasons," said Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick. "Now we look forward to his contributions on offense."
A Canton, Ohio native, McDaniels was featured in Sports Illustrated as a quarterback and kicker at McKinley High School. He matriculated to John Carroll University, where he excelled as a wide receiver. In 1999, he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant on Nick Saban's staff at Michigan State. He joined the Patriots in 2001 as a personnel assistant in the scouting department, but his responsibilities included film breakdown and scouting preparations for the defensive staff. Since then, his role has developed as a defensive staff assistant.
As quarterbacks coach, McDaniels will fill the position recently vacated by John Hufnagel, who was named the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants.
