Roster: Kyle Dugger, Marcus Epps, Jaylinn Hawkins, Josh Minkins, Jabrill Peppers, Dell Pettus, Jordan Polk, Craig Woodson
Analysis:
With Kyle Dugger returning healthy following ankle issues throughout 2024, he and Jabrill Peppers form a nasty, downhill tandem that will be central to the defense's identity. Training camp will show how they are deployed and how a potential third safety could emerge in a significant role.
It's also a position group that will help form the core of the special teams.
Veteran Marcus Epps adds depth and experience, though he was limited to just three games with the Raiders last season due to injury. He has 45 career starts and could be a nice centerfield free safety complement to Dugger and Peppers.

Jaylinn Hawkins is another veteran name to watch. He played in all 17 games last season and was active throughout the spring while Dugger recovered. Hawkins brings special teams value and could push for a bigger defensive role.
Epps and Hawkins will be battling younger, hungry prospects like fourth-round pick Craig Woodson, Dell Pettus, Josh Minkins and Jordan Polk.
Woodson was active in offseason team activities and is an intriguing player praised by veterans for his smarts. At Cal, Woodson racked up 245 tackles and 18 passes defended over 46 games, and his ability to play multiple roles makes him a potentially valuable piece.
Pettus, a 2024 undrafted free agent, carved out a niche on special teams last season, stepping in as the personal protector on the punt team. He'll look to retain that role while competing for defensive snaps. His 16 solo tackles and 2 passes defended show he can contribute when called upon.
Minkins, from Louisville, played in 51 college games and recorded 144 tackles and 4 interceptions. His length and athleticism make him an intriguing developmental prospect. Polk, out of Texas State, is a physical run supporter who posted 68 tackles and 2 sacks in just 13 games. Both will need strong camps to stick, but their traits suggest upside.
This is a fluid group with a lot of possibilities and the potential to be one of the most dynamic positions on the roster.
