Quick Kicks: Wed 10/10 practice & locker room notes

Seattle-like weather was just was the Patriots needed today at practice, and they got it: damp, wet, misty conditions when they went out to their double practice fields. The team was in shorts, shells, and helmets.

Some good news on injuries from the Broncos game: right tackle Sebastian Vollmer suffered a knee injury Sunday but was on the field to start practice, along with left guard Logan Mankins, who left the game in the fourth quarter to receive treatment on his left calf, which he'd been listed with prior to the game.

Only four players were not on the field today: the three left over from last week's absentee list — safety Steve Gregory (hip), Wide receiver Julian Edelman (left hand), and tight end Michael Hoomanawanui (concussion) – and linebacker Tracy White (left foot), who was injured in the Broncos game.

"Uh-oh" (Hoomanawanui's nickname) made a brief appearance in the locker room prior to practice.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski (hip) continues to play and practice, and was asked about his health today. "Feeling good," he responded. "Just working with the training staff every day. Just getting out there to get better."

Safety Patrick Chung shared his thoughts on two of the Seahawks' offensive stars, rookie QB Russell Wilson and running back Marshawn Lynch. "Oh, [Wilson]'s good. Has a very strong arm. He's fast, he can escape, he can run to pass, run to run. He's good… like another [Jake] Locker back there. He's a young guy, and young guys usually want to make plays.

He first word that came to Chung's mind to describe Lynch was, "Beast. He runs hard. He's in beast-mode all the time. He runs hard, strong runner, breaks tackles. He's confident. That's what you need. He's going to break some tackles, make some plays. We have to limit him as much as we can."

Running back Stevan Ridley has been nominated again for FedEx Ground Player of the Week, based on his impressive effort against the Broncos (28 carries, 151 yards, rushing TD). Fans can vote for the player of their choosing at www.NFL.com/FedEx.

The black jerseys were issued again this week, following the team's latest victory. Five players were so honored for their efforts in scout team last week: QB Ryan Mallett, TE Daniel Fells, DE Trevor Scott, rookie DE Justin Francis, and practice squad fullback James Develin.

The full injury report will be updated here on the blog during the 4 o'clock hour, or as soon as the Seahawks are finished practicing out west.

UPDATE…

Wide receiver Wes Welker was added to New England's injury report with an ankle injury. It limited him in Wednesday's workout. For the third Wednesday in a row, Brady (right shoulder) was added as well. He has been removed in each of the previous two weeks before game day, however.

Sixteen other Patriots made this Wednesday's injury report. The four missing players mentioned above did not take part at all. Meanwhile, rookie running back Brandon Bolden (knee), DL Brandon Deaderick (ankle), rookie DL Justin Francis (ankle), Gronkowski, tight end Aaron Hernandez (right ankle), rookie LB Dont'a Hightower (left hamstring), Mankins (calf/hip), OL Nick McDonald (right shoulder), CB Sterling Moore (knee), RB Shane Vereen (left foot), and Vollmer (back/knee) were all limited. Defensive tackle Kyle Love (knee) was a full participant.

Out in Seattle, five players were listed: starting center Max Unger (hip) did not take part, while Lynch was limited with a back issue. Backup defensive linemen Jaye Howard (foot) and Clinton McDonald (groin) did not practice either. Backup guard John Moffitt (knee) was simple listed as OUT.
