Earlier this week Martellus Bennett said bye-bye to New England on social media.
Late Friday his new NFL home came into clarity as Nick Sports – Yes, that's Nickelodeon sports breaking NFL news. Only Bennett would have his signing broken by the kids' network! -- reported that the veteran tight had reached an agreement to sign with the Green Bay Packers.
After one season catching passes from Tom Brady and winning a Super Bowl with the Patriots, Bennett moves on to another future Hall of Fame quarterback and likely Super Bowl contender in Aaron Rodgers' Green Bay squad.
Arriving in New England via trade last March from the Bears, Bennett started 12 of the 16 games he played in last fall despite battling ankle and knee issues. He finished 2016 with 55 catches for 701 yards with a career-high seven touchdowns.
Though it seemingly became unlikely the Patriots were going to pursue Bennett either way, New England's decision to move on solidified when the team traded with the Colts for Dwayne Allen this week.
