Year Two of the Bill Belichick era is officially underway with the arrival of rookies and quarterbacks to Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I. for the start of training camp 2001.
With second-round pick Matt Light signed over the weekend, New England has eight of its 10 draft picks under contract. The only players not signed yet are first-rounder Richard Seymour and third-round pick Brock Williams, who was injured during passing camp and is likely out for the season. The 13 other rookies (eight draft picks, five rookie free agents) four quarterbacks will work for the next three days until the rest of the team is required to report this Thursday.
Several first- and second-year players also have reported already. Players physicals and conditioning tests will be conducted Thursday morning, and the first open practice will be that afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
Head Coach Bill Belichick will hold his first press conference of the season at 11 a.m. Monday, and it will be carried live on Patriots.com. For the rest of camp, his press conference will be held at approximately 11:20 a.m.
Training camp runs through Tuesday, Aug. 21, with most days consisting of a morning practice starting at 8:50 and an afternoon session at 2:50. Practice sessions are free and open to the public, and the daily schedule is subject to change.
