FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (Aug. 25, 2005) -- The New England Patriots released safety Antuan Edwards after signing him as a veteran free agent in early June.

Edwards, who spent the first five of his six previous NFL seasons with Green Bay, played in both of the Patriots' exhibition games and made three tackles. The Patriots play at the Packers Aug. 26.

Edwards, 28, split last season between Miami and St. Louis. He started 31 of his 68 games after being taken with the 25th pick of the first round out of Clemson in 1999. He had seven interceptions, but only one in the last four years.
