Vikings fill out coaching staff

Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress filled out his coaching staff, hiring linebackers coach Fred Pagac and secondary coach Joe Woods.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (Jan. 24, 2006) -- Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress filled out his coaching staff, hiring linebackers coach Fred Pagac and secondary coach Joe Woods.

Pagac coached linebackers at Kansas City last season and in Oakland from 2001-03. Before that, he spent 19 seasons at Ohio State, coaching linebackers from 1982-95 and serving as defensive coordinator from 1996-99, when he coached Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield.

"I've had an opportunity to coach against Fred Pagac's linebackers for a lot of years in the Big Ten from when I was with the University of Illinois on," Childress said. "I've had a professional relationship with him for probably 20 years now and I've always admired the toughness and tenacity of his linebackers."

Woods was Tampa Bay's defensive quality control coach for the past two seasons, working with current Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin.
