Patriots rookie kicker Andy Borregales has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 12, becoming the third New England player to earn the honor this season. He joins running back Antonio Gibson (Week 2) and cornerback Marcus Jones (Week 4) as Patriots recognized for standout special teams performances in 2025.
Borregales has been a model of consistency since early in the season, bouncing back from a missed field goal in Week 1 and two missed extra points in Week 2. Since then, he's been nearly automatic, with his only other miss coming last Thursday night against the Jets.
That reliability was on full display in Sunday's victory over the Bengals, where Borregales delivered three second-half field goals that helped New England maintain its lead and ultimately seal the win, none bigger than a 52-yarder he made with 1:56 to play to re-extend the Patriots six-point lead.
His poise under pressure is quickly making him a trusted weapon for the Patriots and a key contributor to their success.
Borregales arrived in Foxborough with a reputation for excellence, and he's living up to it. The rookie was considered one of the best kickers in the country coming out of college, inspiring the Patriots to use a sixth-round draft selection on him. His competitive edge and confidence were evident during his time at Miami, where he set school records and earned All-America honors. Special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer praised Borregales' mental toughness and preparation, traits that have translated seamlessly to the NFL.
With his latest accolade, Borregales is proving the Patriots made the right choice.
