Chargers re-sign backup RB Chatman

Jesse Chatman, the backup to Pro Bowl running back LaDainian Tomlinson, re-signed with the San Diego Chargers.

SAN DIEGO (March 30, 2005) -- Jesse Chatman, the backup to Pro Bowl running back LaDainian Tomlinson, re-signed with the San Diego Chargers.

Chatman was a restricted free agent and agreed to a one-year deal.

Last year, Chatman had career highs of 392 yards on 65 carries and scored three touchdowns. With Tomlinson slowed by a groin injury, Chatman had several strong performances in San Diego's 12-4 season. Against Jacksonville, he rushed for 103 yards, a career best, and on consecutive plays he rushed for 31 yards and then for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Chatman also was a regular on special teams. He signed with the Chargers in 2002 as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Washington.
