Game Notes: Patriots at Jets

Patriots move to 1-1 on the season with a 16-9 loss to the New York Jets at the Meadowlands. Seventh-round pick WR Julian Edelman made his NFL debut with a team-leading eight receptions for 98 yards.

BRADY PASSES GROGAN ON PATRIOTS ALL-TIME LIST
Tom Brady entered the Jets game needing 63 passing yards to move past Steve Grogan (26,886) into sole possession of second place on the Patriots All-Time passing list. He completed a 29-yard pass to WR Julian Edelman in the second quarter to pass Grogan. Brady finished the game with 216 yards and now has 27,040 career passing yards. Drew Bledsoe is the all-time leader with 29,657 yards.

EDLEMAN MAKES HIS DEBUT
Seventh-round pick WR Julian Edelman made his NFL debut and was in the starting lineup when the Patriots opened in a three-wide receiver set. Edelman finished with a team-leading eight receptions for 98 yards.

Edelman's first career catch came on a screen pass that went for 10 yards in the first quarter to help get in position for Stephen Gostkowski's 45-yard field goal. He caught a 29-yard pass in the second quarter to set up Gostkowski's 25-yard field goal. He caught a 19-yard pass to get into Jets territory during the Patriots' final drive in the first half that ended in a 29-yard Gostkowski field goal.

EDELMAN HAD FIVE CATCHES OF 10 YARDS OR MORE
Edelman caught five passes of 10 yards or more with a 10-yard catch in the first quarter, a 29-yarder and a 19-yard catch in the second quarter. He added a 15-yard catch and an 18-yard catch in the fourth quarter.

JETS RUNNING BACK LOSES FUMBLE TO PATRIOTS FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 1991
Leon Washington was the first Jets running back to lose a fumble against New England since Brad Baxter lost a fumble in the fourth quarter on November 17, 1991.

GALLOWAY MAKES A START
Joey Galloway made his first start as a member of the Patriots when he started in place of Wes Welker, who was inactive for the game. Galloway's first reception as a Patriot was an 18-yard reception in the first quarter. Galloway finished with five receptions for 53 yards. Galloway needs 13 receptions to become the 30th player in NFL history with 700 career receptions. Galloway now needs 237 yards receiving to become the 21st player in NFL history with 11,000 yards.

SHAWN SPRING MAKES A START
Shawn Springs made his first start as a member of the Patriots when the team opened in a nickel defense.

FRED TAYLOR PASSES JOHN RIGGINS ON ALL-TIME RUSHING LISTFred Taylor entered the Jets game needing 56 yards rushing to move past RB John Riggins (11,352) into 15th place on the NFL's All-Time Rushing list. He gained 46 yards against the Jets to improve to 11,342 yards and needs 11 yards to pass Riggins. San Diego's LaDanian Tomlinson is ranked 14th on the list with 11,815 rushing yards.
