News Blitz 12/16: Missed opportunies

Today's Patriots.com news blitz focuses on missed opportunities in the Patriots 24-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Kevin Patra](http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000299449/article/tom-brady-irked-with-patriots-expletive-play-calls) of NFL.com and Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com write that the Patriots failed to capitalize on a chance to clinch the AFC East on Sunday against the Dolphins. Tom Brady echoed that feeling in his short and concise postgame press conference.

"We got plenty of chances all day," Brady said. "We make some good plays and we make plenty of (expletive) plays."

Brady expanded on that comment during his weekly interview on WEEI's Dennis and Callahan Show.

"We had a lot of great opportunities to win the game and win a division title and just came up short. It's just frustrating all the way around. ... It felt like we moved the ball pretty good all day, we just couldn't get enough points on the board. We've got to try to figure out a way to get the ball in the end zone."

Jerry Spar of WEEI.com offers an analysis of Brady's interview on Dennis & Callahan.

Zuri Berry of Boston.com offers his five takeaways from the Patriots-Dolphins game.

In his weekly Patriots stock report on Boston.com Erik Frenz writes that Kicker Stephen Gostkowski was responsible for two costly errors in the narrow loss to the Dolphins, but gives high marks for Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola and Chandler Jones.

Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald writes that it was a bittersweet day for Patriots wide recievers Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola, both of which turned in record performances in yesterday's loss.

Jim Donaldson of the Providence Journal notes that with the loss to the Dolphins on Sunday it will be a dogfight for the Patriots to win the division title. If the defending Super Bowl champion Ravens beat the Patriots, and the Dolphins win at Buffalo, then the Pats would have to beat the Bills in the final game of the regular season in Foxboro or have to hope the Jets beat the Dolphins in Miami to once again win the AFC East.
