News Blitz 8/22: Tough roster decisions loom

All of the day's Patriots news in one convenient place.

The Patriots have turned their attention to Week 3 and a trip to Detroit to take on the Lions. While the team prepares to depart, several roster-related questions continue to draw attention.

Despite a crowded backfield, the Boston Globe believes running back D.J. Foster is very much in the running for a spot. The same could be said of Devin Lucien, who is trying to squeeze his way into a very deep receiver corps.

There may be two preseason games left to play but the Boston Herald has James O'Shaughnessy already looking forward to the opener and a chance to take on his old team. The Patriot Ledger has O’Shaughnessy just hoping he catches on. Speaking of the preseason, the Patriots aren’t freaking out about their winless start.

The Patriots have some depth issues at defensive end and the Providence Journal looks at Geneo Grissom trying to make the most of his opportunities. The Manchester Union Leader advises Patriots fans to prepare themselves for questions about Malcolm Butler. MassLive.com says linebacker Trevor Bates is making a run for a roster spot. They also provide an update from Belichick on some guys who may be on the bubble.

ESPNBoston.com has Rex Burkhead offering some advice to fantasy football owners.

FootballOutsiders.com says Tom Brady is among the most accurate passers in the game. In other news, the earth continues to be round.

The Boston Globe believes Roger Goodell's extension is about the owners, not the players or fans.
