FOXBORO, Mass.—The New England Patriots announced that they have claimed second-year cornerback Ben Kelly off waivers from the Miami Dolphins. Subsequently, the team placed second-year offensive tackle Adrian Klemm on injured reserve with a leg injury.
Kelly, 23, was drafted in the third round (84th overall) of the 2000 NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins after earning all-conference honors at Colorado as a defensive back and kickoff returner. The 5-foot-9-inch, 185-pound defender saw action in just two games as a rookie and was injured in a game against the Patriots (9/24/00). He was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 26. This year, he appeared in two games and was credited with one tackle before being waived by the Dolphins.
Klemm, 24, was drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 2000 NFL draft out of Hawaii. The 6-foot-3-inch, 312-pound offensive lineman started four of the five games he appeared in as a rookie and saw action at both guard and tackle. This year, Klemm has been inactive for five of the first seven games. He did not play in the two games in which he was active.
