In today's edition of the Patriots.com News Blitz... David Thomas is ready for heated competition at the tight end position.

With six tight ends currently on the Patriots roster, David Thomas is welcoming the competition in what looks to be a heated battle during training camp. The *Boston Globe * offers a piece today which focuses on Thomas's approach this offseason amid the recent free agent signings of Alex Smith and Chris Baker.

"Well, when all this started happening, I thought back to something Rodney Harrison said to me my rookie year: 'Every year your first goal has to be to make the roster,' and I'll go into this year with that approach," Thomas said.

The Boston Globe's Reiss's Pieces blog offers a salary cap check for the Patriots in which it cites the team as having approximately $4.7 million in space.

The South End News notes in its community calendar that the Boston Centers for Youth and Families', the New England Patriots Alumni Club, and the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation are teaming up to host a FREE non-contact football clinic, "Football for You," on Saturday, May 30 from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for boys and girls ages 12 to 14.
