Patriots Sign WR Thabiti Davis

The New England Patriots signed wide receiver Thabiti Davis today.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots signed wide receiver Thabiti Davis today. The former New York Giant is a veteran of two NFL seasons and has also played in NFL Europe and the Arena Football League.

Davis, 28, recorded five receptions for 74 yards in two seasons with the New York Giants. He played in 29 games from 2000-01 and also participated in three postseason games, including Super Bowl XXXV. In his tenure with the Giants, he also recorded 16 special teams tackles. He was originally signed as a rookie free agent by Carolina on April 24, 1998 and participated in the Panthers' 1998 training camp. He was with the Jacksonville Jaguars for their 1999 training camp. He signed with the Giants on June 29, 2000, and played for two seasons in New York as a reserve receiver and on special teams.

Davis is also a two-year veteran of NFL Europe, and played in the Arena Football League during its 2003 season. In 1999, he caught 32 passes for 359 yards and a touchdown for the Barcelona Dragons, who finished the season as the World Bowl runners-up. He returned to Europe the following year, to post 33 catches for 341 yards and two touchdowns for the Berlin Thunder in 2000. This past spring, Davis played for the Arena League's Orlando Predators, where he grabbed 63 passes for 759 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Charlotte, N.C. native played his college football at Wake Forest, where he finished his career ranked second on the school's all-time list with 161 receptions for 1,865 yards and 12 touchdowns.
