Quick Kicks: Thu 12/27 practice & locker room notes

Despite nasty weather throughout the Northeast, the Patriots went back outside to the Gillette Stadium game field for today’s practice.

By the time they got out there this afternoon, most of the heavy rains that soaked the area overnight and through the morning had dissipated.

Players were in helmets and shells for today's workout.

Every player on the roster was present, save CB Marquice Cole (finger).

Following stretching, LB Brandon Spikes (ankle/knee), who did not play against the Jaguars, retreated to an exercise bike on the sideline, something he's been doing almost every practice recently.

Four players won the black jerseys for Practice Players of the Week following the win over Jacksonville: TE Daniel Fells and three practice squanders – WR Kamar Aiken, DB Malcolm Williams, and LB Jeff Tarpinian.

New England still has one spot remaining on its 53-man active roster (assuming Jermaine Cunningham is activated this week – he currently has a roster exemption while he returns from a four-game suspension).

Locker room media interviews are scheduled to begin at 3:45 Eastern today.

Special teams captain Matthew Slater may have had the quote of the week — maybe even the month — when asked how he feels about his latest Pro Bowl selection. "I'd rather be eating gumbo in New Orleans than pineapple in Hawaii." Super Bowl XLVII will be played in New Orleans this year, in case you didn't know.
