Quick Kicks: Thu 12/6 practice & locker room notes

New England was back outside for practice today on a sunny, chilly Thursday. Players were in shells and helmets.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski (left forearm) and o-lineman Nick McDonald (right shoulder) were the only players not seen at the start of today's workout. McDonald was injured during the Miami game, but only missed a couple of series in the second half. It's unclear what his ailment is.

Left guard/co-captain Logan Mankins (left ankle/calf), right guard Dan Connolly (back), and rookie defensive end Chandler Jones (right ankle) were all back in uniform and taking part in practice.

Five players received black jerseys for being named practice players of Dolphins Week: backup QB Ryan Mallett, defensive back Derrick Martin, running backs Shane Vereen and Danny Woodhead, and practice squad wide receiver Kamar Aiken.

Due to the scheduling of this week's game on Monday night, this first injury report of the week will be released today. Locker room interviews are scheduled to being around 3:30.

Both Gronkowski and McDonald did not take part in today's practice.

Linebacker Brandon Spikes now has an ankle injury to go along with the knee that's been bothering him this season. He was limited in his activity today, as were 11 other Patriots, including Mankins, Connolly, and Jones: DL Ron Brace (elbow), S Patrick Chung (hamstring/shoulder), tight end Aaron Hernandez (right ankle),  rookie LB Dont'a Hightower (left hamstring), WR Brandon Lloyd (knee),  defensive tackle Kyle Love (knee), RT Sebastian Vollmer (back/knee), wide receiver Wes Welker (ankle).

Linebacker/co-captain Jerod Mayo (elbow) is probable (75-percent chance of playing). WR/co-captain Matthew Slater (concussion) and linebacker Tracy White (left foot) have been removed from the report.

Down in Houston, staring OLB Brooks Reed (groin) and backup corner Alan Ball (foot) did not practice.

Nine other Texans were limited: starting nose tackle Shaun Cody (ribs/back), starting corner Jonathan Joseph (hamstring/groin), starting defensive end Antonio Smith (ankle), starting left guard Wade Smith (knee/ribs), starting middle linebackers Tim Dobbins (shoulder) and Bradie James (hamstring), starting right tackle Derek Newton (knee), o-lineman Antoine Caldwell (hamstring), tight end Garrett Graham (concussion).

Eight Texans were full participants with various ailments.
