ALAMEDA, Calif. (June 27, 2005) -- The Oakland Raiders signed defensive tackle Ed Jasper in hopes of upgrading a unit that was unimpressive last season under new coordinator Rob Ryan.

Jasper, released in February by the Atlanta Falcons, became a starter last season. He played in the first 12 games before missing four with a hand injury.

The Raiders have some big questions on defense after giving up an average of 27.6 points last season, second worst in the NFL.
