Reports: Caserio staying put

After a pair of interviews for the vacant Miami Dolphins general manager position, Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio will ultimately stay put in New England.

The Dolphins hired Dennis Hickey, a longtime executive with Tampa Bay, over the weekend, after Caserio opted to turn down the Dolphins offer, according to multiple reports.

There were some conflicting reports regarding Caserio's involvement with some claiming he wanted to fire Miami coach Joe Philbin but wouldn't have been permitted to do so while others contend Caserio had no intentions of letting the third-year Dolphins boss go and simply decided to remain with the Patriots.

Either way it appears that Caserio will not be added to the list of defections out of Foxborough this offseason. The Patriots already lost linebackers coach Pepper Johnson and tight ends coach George Godsey, the latter going to Houston to work under Bill O'Brien. The biggest loss of all came when longtime assistant Dante Scarnecchia decided to retire after 30 years with the organization, leaving a gaping hole on the Patriots staff. Dave DeGuglielmo was hired to take Scarnecchia's place as offensive line coach and will obviously have big shoes to fill.
