Check out our favorite photos of Stephen Gostkowski from the 2014-15 Championship season.
Stephen Gostkowski will be a Patriot for more than just this season. According to multiple media reports, the placekicker, who had been on the roster under the one-year franchise tag tender, signed a four-year contract with New England Wednesday worth just north of $17 million.
The two sides had until 4 p.m. Eastern today (per NFL rules) to reach an agreement on a new deal, or else Gostkowski would have been forced to play the 2015 season under his one-year franchise contract, which he signed earlier this offseason.
Since being drafted in the fourth round in 2006, Gostkowski has been one of the NFL's most reliable kickers, and also one of the strongest-legged. He was given the challenging task of replacing a future Hall of Fame kicker in Adam Vinatieri, and has not disappointed. Statistically, he had the best season of his career in 2014, drilling just shy of 95 percent of his field goal tries. Over his previous nine seasons, Gostkowski has successfully booted 87 percent of his three-point attempts.
The Boston Globe was first to report the agreement, while ESPN was first to offer details.
